Very basic. We came from NY and stayed for 2 nights. I like the location and the old style of our room, which was totally different from our friends room in buildin #3, which was modern and much newer. My biggest issue was the smell in the room. As soon as you step in you could smell something terrible. It was moisture, old water, idk but it needs to be investigated and fix the issue. Our room was 117 in building #1 on second floor. The elevator didn't work the entire weekend so we had to carry our suitcases up the stairs. It wasn't fun. The receptionist was super nice when needed to fix an issue that occurred during stay. Make sure you read the fine print about late check-in. Otherwise noone will be there to let you in and you have to sleep in bushes. There is no costumer service as well so they don't pick up the phone. It's not a 24/7 hotel.

First time here and won’t be our last. What a Southport treasure! Great location, very clean and quiet. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. Our Economy Double room with king bed was so clean and comfortable. AC worked as it should. The BEST hotel shower water pressure we’ve ever experienced! We also appreciated the above-average towels and linens. Internet is simple and fast. Plenty of easy parking. The private pool, river beach and pier are wonderful and easy to access. You can easily walk to downtown Southport. The Ft Fisher and Bald Head ferries are a 5 minute ride away. Stay here, you will not regret it!

The rooms are huge. The studio with the king bed has great views to the river and sunset. The room has a big fridge, a mini kitchen, and even a dishwasher is you want to cook. The shower is XXL size

The overall quality of the property was superb. We especially enjoyed the sunrise and sunset views over the water. Our stay was on a warm November weekend, so we didn't use the pool, but the lighted pier and small beach were very peaceful. The room was nice, extremely clean, and the kitchenette had everything we needed to make snacks and breakfasts in the room. The shower facility was excellent and would be safe for a person with physical limitations. My only complaint (as others noticed) was the very soft mattresses. Some might love this; as an older person, I woke up stiff and sore. Also, the mattresses have no edge support and collapse if you sit too close to the edge. I found this out when I accidently moved too close to the edge while sleeping and was dumped onto the floor! So this is something to be aware of. I would definitely stay here again.

The River hotel of Southport is a beautiful and inclusive place to stay. Located about 10 minutes from all of main street and only about a 15 minute walk from the southport museum it gives you the peace and quit as well as the opportunity to explore the hustle and bustle of the town. With newer amenities as well as under house parking and a private swimming pool this place is much more than a standard hotel. We also are right next to the Cape Fear River and could spend all day in lawn chairs looking at boats pass. Loved my time here and would recommend it for anyone looking to stay involved in the leisure culture of Southport and enjoy their time to the fullest.

The River Hotel is a nice choice, in a quiet location, approx 1/2 mile from the main shopping/restaurant area of Southport. They have a very nice pool area and outdoor "venue". There's also a nice pier on the Cape Fear river. Our room resembled a studio apartment with a small kitchen area. There is a small deck, with chairs, on each room. The bath was very roomy. My particular issue with our stay: we paid extra for a "river view" room but our view was completely blocked by trees and bushes growing right next to the deck. We would stay here again, but only if we could get a 3rd floor room. All the service personnel that we encountered, particularly our housekeeper, were all exceptionally friendly and helpful.

We randomly found this gem, and I am so glad we did. It is such a nice location with a private pool, private beach and a private pier. The rooms were clean and well equipped. The patios are a little small, but chairs are provided and it was a nice place to sit and drink coffee in the mornings. There are a lot of birds along the tree line too, if you are bird nerds like us. We saw a painted bunting here also! It is a smallish hotel that is not a chain. We definitely recommend this place for a quiet stay.

We stayed at The River Hotel in Southport, NC over the 4th of July and had a wonderful experience! The room was spacious, spotless, and well-maintained. Each unit comes with its own kitchenette, which is perfect for couples or families who want the convenience of preparing meals without having to rent a whole beach house. The location is fantastic! It was close to town, yet tucked away enough to feel like a getaway. The hotel has a beautiful pool that’s handicap accessible, plus a newly built dock that’s great for fishing. There was plenty of parking, and the elevators made everything easy to access. One of our favorite moments was watching the fireworks from the hotel’s little deck - it was the perfect spot. Overall, this hotel had everything we could have asked for, and we can’t wait to go back!
